About the Job

Position Summary

The Wellsite Geologist provides real time geological monitoring and interpretation of drilling,

sidetrack, and workover operations at Prudhoe Bay. This role ensures accurate formation

identification, well placement, and data acquisition, supporting safe and efficient operations in

compliance with operator standards and Alaska North Slope (ANS) operating requirements. The

position requires strong technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to perform

under remote Arctic conditions.


Key Responsibilities

Geological Monitoring & Interpretation

  • Monitor drilling operations in real time to ensure correct formation identification and

well placement

  • Interpret geological data from:
  • Mud logs
  • Cuttings
  • LWD/MWD data
  • Wireline logs
  • Correlate subsurface data with geological models and offset wells
  • Provide recommendations on drilling parameters, casing points, and TD decisions
  • Identify potential drilling hazards including overpressure zones, lost circulation zones,

and unstable formations


Well Placement & Reservoir Support

  • Support geosteering activities as applicable
  • Advise on reservoir entry, lateral positioning, and stratigraphic targets
  • Monitor hydrocarbon shows, lithology changes, and fluid indicators
  • Communicate geological risks and opportunities to rig and office teams in real time


Data Management & Reporting

  • Prepare and distribute daily geology reports
  • Maintain accurate geological records including:
  • Depth correlations
  • Lithology descriptions
  • Show evaluations
  • Document deviations from planned geology and recommend corrective actions
  • Ensure geological data is captured and transferred per operator standards


Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE)

  • Comply with all HSE and environmental requirements
  • Participate in JSAs, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
  • Support a strong safety culture and stop work authority
  • Ensure sampling and data collection are conducted safely and responsibly


Arctic & Prudhoe Bay Specific Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in extreme cold, limited daylight, and remote operating conditions
  • Understand ANS specific geology, including mature reservoirs and permafrost considerations
  • Adapt geological monitoring to winter drilling, ice pads, and seasonal constraints
  • Maintain readiness for rapid operational changes due to weather or logistics


Required Qualifications


Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geoscience, or Earth Sciences
  • Advanced degree preferred but not required


Experience

  • 3–7+ years of wellsite geology experience
  • Prior experience in:
  • Onshore oil and gas drilling operations
  • Realtime geological interpretation
  • Alaska North Slope or Arctic experience strongly preferred


Certifications (Required or Preferred)

  • Well Control Certification (IWCF or IADC – awareness or engineer level)
  • H2S Awareness/Alive
  • Arctic or Cold Weather Operations training (preferred)
