**Position Specific Description**

We’re looking for a Protection and Control Engineer to perform maintenance and installation on various pieces of substation equipment. Skills should not only be limited to relays, but also familiarity with carrier communications (carrier sets), Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Digital Fault Recorders (DFRs). Emphasis on transmission and generation protection.

+ Must be able to qualify for and maintain access to nuclear electrical generating facility.

+ Primary work location – Plant St Lucie switchyard (Saint Lucie County, FL).

+ This position interfaces with Plant St Lucie personal

+ Primary responsibility will be to support PSL switchyard P&C tasks, but also support local TSFO area as needs arise.


+ Perform installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relaying equipment.

+ Perform function testing of substation control circuits on relay panel, transformers & circuit breakers.

+ Perform end-to-end relay testing using relay test software, and analyze the operation of the relay based on the fault type run.

+ Develop written standard commissioning, testing and maintenance procedures for protective relaying.

+ Examine relay settings and logic equations for confirmation of system operation in accordance with design.

+ Develop isolation restoration procedures for maintenance

+ Lead safety briefings on job site.


+ Experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays in transmission, generation or distribution level substations.

+ Ability to develop written test procedures for transmission, generation and distribution substation protection.

+ Ability to develop relay test plans necessary to test the relays

+ Lead investigations of electrical related issues, including root cause analysis as needed.

+ Ability to calibrate & perform functional tests on both electromechanical and micro-processor based protective relays for substations.

+ Capable of trouble shooting distribution and transmission controls circuits

+ Knowledge of relay test software is required. Doble ProTest or Protection Suite preferred.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

+ Experience installing, maintaining, testing, or repairing circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, or similar equipment is desired.

+ Ability to operate test equipment

+ Ability to read and fully understand protection and control schematic diagrams and wiring diagrams, and catch mistakes and problems with the drawings and design

+ Ability to understand manufactures’ literature to facilitate testing.

+ Ability to review relay settings and determine the relay logic matches the design on the schematics as well as customer standards. This would include that the CT Ratios are correct as well as the trip outputs.

**Job Overview**

Employees in this position provide management of life cycle programs for all transmission and substation nuclear assets and ensures adherence to all NEIL, NERC, NRC, technical specifications, and maintenance programs.

**Job Duties & Responsibilities**

+ Conducts detailed analysis utilizing fault trees and failure mode effect analysis tools, IEEE standards, and operating experience for all components

+ Provides management of effective maintenance and life cycle management strategies to detect degraded conditions and prevent in service failures of critical components including spare equipment

+ Develops condition assessment, preventative maintenance, post-maintenance testing, procedures, and acceptance criteria

+ Defines performance monitoring plans and sets expectations for detecting degraded conditions

+ Develops procedures and life-cycle management programs

+ Monitors in-service equipment and trends equipment performance

+ Reviews transmission and nuclear operating experience applicability

+ Assists with oversight of work tasks in progress

+ Performs other job-related duties as assigned

**Required Qualifications**

+ Bachelor’s – Engineering

+ Experience: 3+ years

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Master’s Degree

+ Certified Professional Engineer (PE)

+ Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certified
