Currently our Financial Systems has a Finance Business Process & Systems Analyst opportunity.

The Finance Business Process & Systems Analyst will analyze, review and assess Finance systems and processes, assessing their effectiveness, identifying opportunities, resolving issues or problems, and proposing/implementing new or enhanced processes, practices and systems.   

This is a temporary position which may be for a period of up to 24 months, offers a competitive compensation package and is located on-site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Maintain up to date system related documentation, which lays down procedures for ensuring that correct and safe practices are followed and system reliability and availability are maintained at a high standard.

  • Ensure that all personnel in the Finance Department are appropriately system trained with system access associated to their respective roles.

  • Ensure high quality, effective services that meet customer needs and facilitate achievement of the Department's business plans.

  • Monitor performance and initiate any actions necessary to correct any adverse trends and proactively respond to future needs and requirements.

  • Responsible for the health of all Finance systems and execution of the data mining function.

  • Provides Finance systems monitoring and system enhancements to support the company's business objectives and strategic plan.

  • Monitors data integrity issues.

  • Specific accountability includes support to the Finance department and their client groups in the areas of: Reporting,

  • Planning, Budgeting, Period-End cycle, System Access and general system support

  • This position reports directly to the Finance Manager, Systems and Analytics

  • Perform other duties as required.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, review and assess Finance systems and processes, assessing their effectiveness, identifying opportunities, resolving issues or problems, and proposing/implementing new or enhanced processes, practices and systems. This includes contributing to the assessment of the impact of changes sought by the management team, advancing effective recommendations to guide decision makers.

  • Provide expert, technical judgment on these business processes and systems to the Manager and management team with effective recommendations for optimum strategies for the operation, development and improvement of these systems and business processes.

  • Perform tasks involved in the various stages of the System Development Cycle for these systems and perform business process re-engineering, system security and audits.

  • Analyze and evaluate upstream and downstream system interfaces obtaining resolution of any issues identified. Identify and recommend business simplification opportunities.

  • Assist in identifying the legal, systems, administrative and financial control implications of proposed changes and various initiatives.

  • Represent the Finance Division in dealings with other Divisions and Business Units across the Company.

  • Provide technical support to the Finance Division regarding business process/systems information and changes.

  • Enhance, improve and/or replace these business processes and systems, and build/implement new systems and business processes

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis to investigate, review and assess the effects of diverse problems and issues on Finance business processes and systems; perform tasks to enhance, improve and/or replace these business processes and systems; build/implement new systems and business processes:

  • Document, evaluate and maintain the existing Financial processes and/or systems, including their condition, design, functioning, risks and opportunities; analyze and evaluate upstream and downstream system interfaces with related systems; assist in developing work plans relative to the issues or problems to be resolved.

  • Develop system requirements documentation/specifications, review system design specifications, elaborate test plans, coordinate the testing, gather and remit supporting test results, support, prepare and execute user training and implementation activities, and prepare/provide user documentation, as directed by the Team Leader.

  • Design and implement changes to administrative procedures and business re-engineering improvements.

  • Identify and recommend business simplification opportunities.

  • Identify the legal, contractual, financial control, accounting policy, systems and administrative implications of the various initiatives; assist in developing work plans relative to the issues or problems to be resolved and obtain the necessary resolution.

  • Provide analytical support in order to develop statistical models and characteristics that manage business risks related to Financial Management.

  • Through analytical expertise, predictive modeling techniques and available data, targeted statistical models are developed to monitor and manage business risk.

  • Models are implemented within current systems in a timely and efficient manner and used to compliment business strategies.

  • Associated Tasks: Develop new models or characteristics of existing models to address business risk and manage Finance Strategies.

  • Preserve integrity of the data through data governance and analyze data to support the development of statistical models.

  • Support the development of models (reports, scorecards, metrics, etc.) to measure, trend and predict the various dimension of cost and associated risks and identify potential for financial fraud and abuse Aimed at controlling costs and promote further commercial awareness throughout the organization.

  • Track predictive models to evaluate their effectiveness and performance and keep them current.

  • Liaise with other program owners for model implementation and updates as well as report any impact on specific Finance Strategies and Programs.

  • Contribute to the assessment of the impact of changes.

  • Advance effective recommendations to guide decision makers driving commercial awareness.

  • Contribute to the assessment of the impact of changes arising from various initiatives and task groups and advance effective recommendations to guide decision makers conducting the initiatives.

  • Issue instructions to Internal/External Staff concerning changes to systems or administrative procedures.

  • Conduct/co-ordinate focus groups and task groups composed of staff from across the business units, and charged with identifying opportunities/problems, resolving issues, making recommendations, performing cost/benefit or risk analysis, and planning requirements gathering, testing and/or implementation activities.

  • Support preparation of budgets, periodic reports and commentaries, cost/benefit analysis, risk analysis, internal/financial control assessments and various other analyses as directed by the Team Leader.

  • Develop programs as directed by the Team Leader.

  • Perform tasks involved in the various stages of the System Development Cycle for these systems; perform business re-engineering of the business processes.

  • Maintain up to date on vendors’ new mandatory and optional features.

  • Represent the Finance Division in dealings with other Divisions and Business Units across the Organization.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of decision support systems, information systems and relevant computer and information systems skills

  • Strong technical skills, including experience building and supporting integrations 

  • Functional knowledge of Workday Financials, Workday Studio, Workday Extend and Workday Prism is highly desirable

  • Good knowledge of English, both oral and written, to facilitate effective communication

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, budgeting and performance reporting desirable

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to analyze complex business challenges, respond independently and communicate across all levels of the organization

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with experience troubleshooting and documenting issues, gaps, and resolutions

  • Ability to work autonomously while being highly organized, process oriented and able to handle multiple priorities

Education and Experience

  • This knowledge is normally considered to be gained through the completion of a four (4) year University Degree or College equivalent in an appropriate field such as Business Administration, Accounting, Information Systems or Information Technology.

  • A period of over 6 years up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience

  • Strong background in computer systems and software innovation, system design and change management
