This role will work closely with teammates and management on various accounting activities, including reviewing journal entries, reviewing account reconciliations, and preparing and reviewing monthly and quarterly reporting.  The Lead role will also be required to analyze and research ad-hoc requests, in addition to answering data requests from various internal and external parties.  Candidates should possess necessary skills to develop reporting and effectively prepare presentations for management review and decision making.  Attention to detail and a dedication to transformative and efficient processes are key to success in this role. 

Candidates should exhibit excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate well with others.  Employees at this level work independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations.  The Lead Accounting Analyst is responsible for performing tasks in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with published deadlines while strictly adhering to company policies and controls.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present analysis of financial data for management reporting

  • Perform income statement and balance sheet variance analysis

  • Prepare and review financial schedules required to meet monthly and quarterly business unit data requests for monthly reporting and disclosure in 10-Q and 10-K

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries

  • Reconcile and review various balance sheet accounts

  • Work with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information and answering questions as needed

  • Assist with the preparation and review of Service Company allocations factors and yearly FERC reporting

  • Perform and assist in research of various FERC or other regulatory accounting issues including rate case support and regulatory audits

  • Maintain good working knowledge of accounting policies and impacts as required

  • Coordinate and assist implementation of significant new accounting pronouncements

  • Special projects including research and process improvements

  • Assist with SOX documentation and control updates and monitoring

  • Provide review and support to other team members

Required/Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline

  • Five (5) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree

  • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)

  • Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point

Desired Qualifications

  • CPA or working toward CPA

  • Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting

  • Eight (8) years or more of professional work related experience

  • Ability to use OneStream and PeopleSoft products

  • Proficient in Microsoft Power Apps

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to analyze financial information and recognize significant variances, trends, and irregularities

  • Ability to work in a team environment and foster good relationships with teammates and customers

  • Previous experience in Utility or regulatory accounting environment

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
