Position Summary:

The Corporate Product Quality group resides within the Corporate HES&S organization. The Quality Advisor will assume a leadership role in anticipating and identifying product quality issues, related to light products, petrochemicals, and additives; and will provide technical expertise to develop and implement innovative solutions that ensure conformance with applicable industry, regulatory and stakeholder requirements and expectations. This is accomplished by developing quality initiatives at a local and global level, and implementing strategies, guidelines, and procedures to create and mature MPC’s quality management system. A high value is placed on possessing strong communications, strategic influence and critical thinking skills and competencies. This position has regular exposure to multiple MPC business units as well as external industry counterparts.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance for the correction of off-specification product.
  • Take after hours on-call service for 2-4 weeks per quarter on average.
  • Perform quality audits autonomously or in a group within and outside MPC facilities.
  • Maintain regular contact with assigned facilities and conduct periodic site visits.
  • Lead PQ responses and investigations to rectify product issues, determine cause and contributory circumstances, confer with appropriate management personnel, and assist with the development of innovative solutions and process improvements to prevent recurrences.
  • Lead, support, and participate in cross-organizational work groups and PQ related initiatives to develop, maintain, and continuously improve quality standards, procedures, and practices.
  • Initiate and coordinate the development of quality knowledge documents, information manuals, presentations, training material and programs, and communicate subject matter effectively.
  • Participate and represent Corporate PQ on teams and projects.
  • Keep abreast of new developments related to organizational operations, establish and maintain contact with appropriate representatives of other companies, manufacturers and governmental agencies to gain knowledge of issues that could affect the organization.
  • Work with personnel at all levels across MPC as well as external stakeholders to effectively implement improvements. Anticipate and identify quality issues and develop solutions to address and resolve issues while considering the impact on other business units within the company. This may include gathering and analysis of business and operational data.
  • Expected travel up to 25%

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, engineering, science, business or other relevant degree required
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience required 10 years preferred.
  • Excellent working knowledge of midstream or downstream operations
  • In-depth conceptual and practical knowledge of organization’s product quality aspects and fuels regulatory requirements both within the company and externally
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must be able to pass drug test and background check
