What You’ll Do

 PSC North America is seeking a technically oriented, enthusiastic Project Lead/Senior Consultant - HVDC with 8+ years of relevant experience, preferably with some knowledge of HVDC transmission systems for a position as a Project Lead. The Project Lead is heavily involved in the business development side of things for our HVDC teams. Our consultants work with developing and existing key clients and major vendors to provide technical support in the development, design, commissioning, operations and maintenance, and project management of HVDC projects primarily in North America while supporting PSC clients in other parts of the world, as needed. PSC Project Leads support both HVDC-LCC and HVDC-VSC technology connected to overhead transmission lines, underground cable systems, submarine cable systems, or a combination of each.

 Responsibilities:

 The Project Lead/Senior Consultant - HVDC will conduct a variety of assignments under the supervision of Managers, or Principal Senior Consultants. These include:

  • Provide technical support for the development of HVDC projects including technology review/selection, drafting HVDC converter technical specifications, supporting environmental and regulatory permit filings, supporting the legal teams with the development of the contracts, producing capital and O&M estimates and technical support for the ISO and transmission interconnection process.
  • Active participation in business development activities to promote HVDC consulting services to increase PSC HVDC visibility to attract new potential clients.
  • Provide technical support for HVDC OEM design review, witness HVDC OEM factory testing, on-site inspections, and commissioning of HVDC projects.
  • Undertake technical reviews of converter station equipment maintenance, operational processes, power system dispatch, and management.
  • Take technical responsibility for PSC client jobs within the HVDC and electrical engineering group assigned to the PSC client, including providing technical direction, performing the necessary technical review, managing employee workflow and work product, guiding, and mentoring personnel, and taking responsibility for final work outcomes and deliverables.
  • Manage projects assigned to the employee, including the management of costs to budget, schedule, quality of the final deliverables, and invoicing to Clients of the Employer.
  • Liaise regularly with Clients of the Employer to ensure that all service tasks are completed to a high standard and to the satisfaction of the Client.
  • Assist with preparing tender submissions and proposals with assistance from other of the Employer’s staff as required.
  • Develop and undertake billable consulting work with new or existing HVDC clients.
  • Manage projects assigned to the employee, including the management of costs to budget, schedule, quality of the financial deliverables, and invoicing to Clients of the Employer. Liaise regularly with Clients of the Employer to ensure that all service tasks are completed to a high standard and to the satisfaction of the Client.
  • Assist with preparing tender submissions and proposals with assistance from other of the Employer’s staff as required. Assist with winning work and exploring new project opportunities and Clients.
  • System analysis including manual calculations, and preparation of detailed technical study reports. 
  • Global interaction with PSC colleagues to create and execute studies.
  • Manage client expectations through regular communications and responsiveness.
  • Are a highly collaborative worldwide team of professionals defining the future of this industry.
  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities, as directed by the Client and/or PSC Management.

We’d love you to have:

  • At least 8 years of Engineering experience. It would be a benefit if the experience is associated with SVC, STATCOM, HVDC-LCC, and/or HVDC-VSC transmission technology.
  • The experience and ability to develop new HVDC clients for PSC.
  • Experience working in team environments, and/or leading teams (experience in a non-professional capacity welcomed)
  • Experience in business development and interaction with existing and new clients.
  • Electrical Engineering degree. Degree level or equivalent qualification in Electrical Senior Consultant or a relevant field.

PSC is committed to the principle of pay equity – paying employees equitably for substantially similar work. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, training, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At PSC it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $115,874 to $203,617 in US dollars compensation may differ outside of the US.
