This is a full-time, permanent leadership position. Our Energy Services Project Managers are a vital part of our organization, and we take pride in hiring the best in the industry.

The Project Manager I (PM-I) manage all phases of project planning and execution for un-regulated Energy Services primarily at Federal installations, campus, and facilities served by Duke Energy.

We are looking for a team player to serve as the unifying agent in developing solutions to achieve sustainability goals in support of our corporate vision. The ideal candidate will be customer centric and have experience completing challenging projects by adapting to continuously changing environments.

This position is the second level of the PM Career Path. The Project Managers at this level are responsible for projects with Low to Moderate levels of complexity, with departmental level impact.

Responsibilities

  • Create / Staff / Lead Project Team. Provide leadership, oversight management, delegation, and coordination to the various internal and external organizations that are providing services to the project (development, engineering, project controls, estimating, construction management, supply chain, legal, EHS, QA/QC, operations, communications, regulatory, security, fuels, transmission, etc.) The PM manages all matrixed members of the team on a daily basis and is responsible for interfacing with functional managers of team members, regarding placement, development and conflict resolution.

  • Initial assignment is the implementation of facilities mechanical system upgrades and energy controls installation for over 50 buildings.

  • Establish and maintain communications among all Project/Program stakeholders. Structure, lead, and/or assist in leading all project related meetings and reports required to ensure open communication between all team members, key stakeholders, and management (monthly project reviews, kickoff meetings, weekly reports, monthly reports, etc.) and to properly report project status. Assure that Project Plan, all appropriate reports and reporting means are developed and managed according to PMCoE Standards. Present reports to appropriate management/ governance team skillfully.

  • Plan (or assist in planning) the project (s) assigned to, including scope, schedule, cost, safety, and quality aspect of the project. Drive the process of project planning including scope, definition, estimating, schedule formation and monitoring cost control measures, procurement/contracting strategies, equipment selection, vendor selection, start-up and commissioning plans, and integration processes. This includes project planning and execution activities like scope definition, detailed design, construction, start-up and commissioning, turnover to operations, and warranty management.

  • Execute projects (or assist in project execution) according to Plan within designed scope, cost and schedule limits. Includes objectives, stakeholders, scope, roles and responsibilities, assumptions and constraints, deliverables, WBS, schedule, external communications, regulatory strategy, procurement strategy, contractor and supplier strategy, resource plan, budget, lessons learned, risk plan, quality plan, safety plan, environmental plan, security plan, integration plan, data management plan, communications and reporting plan, change management, and project close out.

  • Manage assigned project execution at Federal/DOD sites that are served by Duke Energy.

  • Initial Camp Lejeune assignment consists of implementation of facilities mechanical system upgrades and energy controls installation for over 50 buildings.

  • Future assignments are not limited to facility upgrades and might include civil and electrical infrastructure projects.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree and two (2)+ years related work experience

  • In lieu of Associates degree AND two (2)+ years related work experience listed above, High School/GED degree and five (5)+ years related work experience

  • Valid driver's license

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)

  • Configuration Management II Professional (CM2-P)

Working Conditions

  • Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.

  • Assignment requires on-site presence (minimal remote work)

  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards

  • Walking, climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds

  • Working in all-weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow)

  • Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions, chemicals, or solvents

  • Working on military installations
