The Section Manager, Maintenance manages changing priorities, communicating to work groups and exercising sound judgment to effectively facilitate the safe and productive completion of maintenance work. This includes identifying lessons learned and OPEX (Operation Experience) and incorporating into future work and providing management oversight in compliance with programs within Bruce Power to effectively meet regulatory, operations and business requirements.

The successful incumbent will offer a strong maintenance knowledge and be very detail-oriented and process driven.  A proven leader and strong organization skills are required to be able to lead a team effectively. 

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Manages the execution of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities by maintenance trades.

  • Executes all Site Services maintenance work to support the continued safe and efficient operation of all Center of Site (COS) facilities.

  • Drives for Continuous Improvement of activities as aligned to the Excellence Model

  • Acts as a Commercial Thinker to achieve excellence and business results

  • Ensures work is executed to nuclear, radiological and industrial safety standards.

  • Supervise staff by carrying out all required supervisory responsibilities.

  • Leads and manages their Section to achieve the required business results with the desired behaviours of staff.

  • Provide cost report and control systems to adequately monitor the needs and requirements of the section.

  • Ensures proper tools, equipment and materials are provided for work execution.

  • Ensures that subordinates perform maintenance activities in accordance with Bruce Power Policies for the conduct of maintenance and in accordance with approved maintenance procedures.

  • Ensures that fabrication, installation, repair, replacement, and refurbishment activities in registered pressure boundary systems/components are performed in accordance with BP-PROG-00.04, Pressure Boundary Quality Assurance Program.

  • Informs stakeholder departments whether activities can or cannot be completed to support work scheduled by the departments in sufficient time for adjustments to be made to their schedules.

  • Analyzes the degree to which work is performed in accordance with work packages. Identify improvements to the assessing process.

  • Advises Inventory Management Section Manager on parts and materials to be kept in stock and recommend appropriate stock levels for the effective and efficient conduct of maintenance.

  • Provide a system of cost reporting and control adequate to meet the accountability needs and requirements of the Business. Ensure financial records and transactions are processed and maintained in compliance with Corporate and regulatory requirements.

  • Responsible for all personnel matters in the Section including interviewing applicants for vacancies, initiating recommendations, authorizing or obtaining approval to appoint, establishing performance measures, assessing staff performance, approving promotions and progressions. Identify requirements for additional staff and pattern structure changes. Act as Contact Supervisor for the Section on all grievances, job challenges and management reviews.


Skills and Knowledge

Demonstrated capabilities in the following areas:

  • Requires knowledge of maintenance processes and systems, pressure boundary program and due regard to nuclear, radiological and industrial safety safe work execution.

  • Requires experience in a supervisory capacity to be familiar with the development and organization of methods and work.

  • Excellent problem solving skill and decision making skills.

Education and Experience

  • A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years of progressive management experience in a relevant field is considered necessary to gain this experience.

  • Knowledge of maintenance operations, organization, functions, operating policies and procedures, regulations, and license requirements.

  • Excellent organization, planning, time management and project management abilities.  Proven ability to meet deadlines with grace under pressure.

  • Ability to establish excellent working relationships with contacts both internal and external to the Division.

  • Excellent level of written, verbal and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated execution of Continuous Improvement initiatives
