This position is accountable for managing site physical security at the Kearny Mesa Campus.  This campus consists of 55 acres of manufacturing and owned/leased office space.   The site hosts approximately 2000 employees/contractors/visitors/customers daily and operates 24/7 365 days per year. The security coordinator will ensure the protection of Solar employees, plant and property, proprietary information, reputation and brand and regulatory compliance. 

Leadership Responsibilities: Third Party Security contract employees and administration of CAT/Solar security standards, and policies, for Kearny Mesa CA Campus.


The key role of the Security Professional II position is to move from learning and assisting others to learning to contribute independently. This position is expected to be familiar with the company’s processes and methodologies. Decisions on routine, limited risk issues that may affect the facility may be made by this position. Challenges include meeting expectations in delivering results, learning to consider alternative courses of actions, 
making timely decisions and developing communication skills.

In support of security management, identifies significant security risks, assists in designing and implementing strategies and programs to prevent and reduce loss of the organization’s assets. 

Anticipates process partner needs and gives high priority to process partner satisfaction and service. Develops collaborative relationships and provides intermediate expertise, technical guidance, and training to interface interdependencies within assigned global processes. 

Coordinates and manages preventative programs and services to protect against business disruptions in a cost effective manner. Assist in the research and deployment of technical solutions to safeguard corporate assets, most importantly, Solar employees. 

This position performs standard assignments that require some interpretation of data and regulations, identification of problem sources, and possible remedial actions. 

Representative activities:

  • Identify and evaluate the impact of security risk.
  • Identify existing and potential security problems.
  • Participate in developing corrective measures.
  • Assist in processes to ensure conformance to security standards.
  • Assist management system for security functions.
  • Participate on teams to ensure conformance with security standards.
  • Develop security training programs.
  • Perform security audits.
  • Works at a facility with greater than 1000 employees.
  • Manages the 3rd party security contractors daily work activities and leads team meetings.
  • Initiates and participates in more complex investigation.
  • Manage Solar’s Contractor Safety and Prequalification program.
  • Ensure trade compliance with visitors is maintained.
  • Lead site specific security projects.
  • Mentors contract security personnel and junior security supervisory roles.
  • Leads and/or assists with emergency response efforts for spills, fires, medical issues, evacuation drills, etc.
  • Works with other Solar worldwide sites with implementing and troubleshooting security functions (i.e. Access control, CCTV, badge creation, site visits)
  • May travel 10-20%

This position assists in the development and management of the capital and expense budget for the security operations. This position is the main contact for managing the 3rd party security contractor daily activities through site supervisor. This position communicates to Facility Manager on status of security issues affecting local and global processes. This position must possess strong people skills with the ability to interact with and influence senior management to further the site security objectives.

Minimum Requirements:

  • This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with 10 years of experience in law enforcement, intelligence, public service, or private sector security supervision.

Summary Pay Range:

$104,649.00 - $156,973.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
