Currently, our Taxation, Treasury & Business Strategy is currently hiring for a Senior Financial Analyst rotational opportunity.

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and assessing changes in tax legislation, preparing income tax provisions, income tax returns, indirect tax returns, claiming tax credits and grants. Month-end activities will include recording, monitoring, reconciling, analyzing, interpreting and reporting tax and treasury related transactions.

This person will develop good working relationships with all stakeholders and be able to communicate in a clear and logical way while highlighting the key points to allow for effective decision making. This person must be able to demonstrate ability to work within strict deadlines, work independently and produce quality output in a rapid work environment with competing priorities.

This is a temporary position which may be for a period of up to 24 months and offers a competitive compensation package.  The successful applicant to this position will be given the opportunity to indicate their preferred work location, which may either be Bruce Power’s site in Tiverton, Ontario or Bruce Power’s Toronto office.

What will you be responsible for?

  • As a professional senior financial analyst, you will have in-depth and wide ranging knowledge of nuclear financial management systems, programs and practices.

  • You will develop, recommend and monitor the adherence to financial strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines.

  • To provide advice and guidance to line managers in the specialized area of financial management, and to resolve implementation and technical issues independently through exercising professional and independent financial judgement.

  • Provide support to senior finance management in the discharging of due diligence through a professional challenging role within the business.

  • Carry out accountabilities as they relate to the financial management and optimization resources in the tax and treasury department:

  • Develop and recommend strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines through research, analysis and input from stakeholders in the area of tax and general accounting practices.

  • Maintain a professional awareness in relation to current tax and accounting practices, (i.e. ITA & GAAP), the general business environment, and the utility industry and be able to communicate impacts and implications throughout the business.

  • Conduct investigations into specialized tax and accounting areas or needs and prepare procedures to account for such issues that balance all stakeholder needs.

  • Review tax and accounting practices and provide a due diligence assessment as to the accuracy, consistency and appropriateness of analysis and conclusions being reached.

  • Provide management reports, utilizing financial systems and other inputs and assist line managers in the interpretation of financial and operational results.

  • Ensure the integrity of the decision support process through supporting the preparation and review of business case summaries.

  • Undertake compliance reviews within the company’s internal control framework to ensure consistent site management control.

  • Support the development and implementation of on-going and new systems and perform periodic reviews of financial systems & processes to identify opportunities for improved productivity.

  • Provide managers with advice, guidance and support for business planning, budgeting, reporting, performance projections, resource forecasts, and internal control.

Education and Experience

  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through completion of a four year university degree in a relevant discipline, plus 1 year of further concentrated study (or attainment of a professional accounting designation (i.e. CA, CMA, CGA).

  • A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.

  • Completion of the CPA In-depth tax program is an asset.

  • Must have demonstrated proficiency in crafting written communication and in presenting technical and managerial issues to peers and senior management.

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of and experience in dealing with various internal controls framework methodologies.

  • Must have demonstrated experience in preparing and analyzing financial statements and reports.

  • Must have in-depth experience with tax planning, budgeting, accounting, decision support, and policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet job requirements for multiple clients and demanding deadlines.
