Job Summary

The Tax Analyst Senior or Principal is responsible for preparing and/or reviewing tax returns, work papers and analysis; preparing and/or reviewing forecast, budget and regulatory information; and, computing and/or reviewing and recording taxes.

*****This position location will need to be within a three-hour driving distance from Columbus, OH - AEP Headquarters.

** Compensation is a wide range between $81,777 - $110,000 based on experience and analyst level.

Job Description


  • Prepare and/or review complex federal, state and local tax returns, reports, estimates and work papers and analysis.
  • Prepare and/or review analyses and work papers to support the monthly recording and reporting of tax accruals including the reconciliation of tax accrual accounts. Compute taxes for special studies, accrual vs. actual adjustments, and forecasts.
  • Plan and organize the preparation and/or review of asset valuation schedules, special studies, projects, forecasts, budgets, analyses and regulatory proceeding schedules. Participate in discussions with tax administrators on related schedules and studies.
  • Respond to business unit requests for tax information, generate tax information requests and provide tax requirements.
  • Actively participate in the analysis, selection, maintenance and operation of tax systems for use in Tax Department processes and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in the federal, state and local tax audit process including the preparation and review of responses to auditor questions, communication with internal and external auditors, and review and prepare responses to audit assessments.
  • Research tax issues and/or questions and prepare written analysis and conclusions.

  • Bachelor's degree.

Work Experience requirement listed below:

  • (Senior Level) Three (3) years' of total work experience in business, finance, or accounting disciplines with a minimum of one (1) years' experience in tax functions.
  • (Principal Level) Five (5) years' of total work experience in business, finance, or accounting disciplines with a minimum of three (3) years' experience in tax functions.
  • Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: Professional certification (CPA, CMA, CIA) or Graduate Business Degree preferred.

$92,377.00-120,089.00 USD

Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate’s ability to work from an approved work location. Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities. The following locations are NOT currently approved for this position: AK, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, KS, MA, ME, MS, MT, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WY, US Territories or international work locations. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidate’s expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEP’s staffing needs.
