The Solar Project Management & Construction (PMC) Project Team supports the planning, design, construction, and commissioning of solar facilities. The project involves the implementation and oversight of scope associated with site preparation, construction of the solar field, commissioning, and turnover to the operations group. The team Intern will support the project manager, construction manager, construction superintendents, engineers, scheduler, cost controller, and environmental health & safety (EH&S) representative with both office and field activities.
As part of the Project Management & Construction (PMC) team, key duties for the Intern will include:
Assist with all phases of project planning and execution to ensure all project success factors are met, including but not limited to scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, security, and integration.
Assist with implementing the project scope while ensuring that all project objectives are met or exceeded for safety, environmental, quality, schedule, cost, configuration management, integration, etc.
Assist with all phases of project planning and execution including managing Project baselines for scope, schedule, cost, quality, communications, security, and integration and will help manage the project effectively.
Supporting the overall PMC Department objective to drive incidents to ZERO!
Understanding the Project Execution Plan and ensure compliance.
Understanding schedule variances and report any discrepancies to the Project Manager.
Interacting with key stakeholders including the Station, Environmental, Transmission, Community Relations and Corporate Communications.
Communicating clearly and effectively
Required Qualifications:
Enrolled and pursuing an ABET-accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or electrical engineering
Cumulative GPA of 2.75
Must not graduate prior to December 2024
Valid driver’s license
Desired Qualifications:
A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred
Sophomore level or above is preferred
Demonstrated technical proficiency in use of computers, software, and engineering applications
Demonstrated time management skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated history of achievements and personal performance
Demonstrated leadership qualities through effective decision making
Works effectively with others from diverse backgrounds to solve problems and implement solutions
Desire to pursue a career in the energy and/or construction industry
Working Conditions:
Heavy construction site
Exposure to weather (heat, rain, cold), noise, heavy equipment. Site-specific training will be provided by Duke Energy
Required to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety boots, high-visibility vest, appropriate clothing, ear plugs, etc.) as needed
Travel to other work locations as needed
Field office and field environment - requires walking, light lifting, infrequent climbing, and occasional exposure to noise and extreme weather conditions.
Candidates who are hired for an onsite role and reside outside of 50 miles from their assigned work location may be eligible for a housing stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses and will be determined at time of offer.
