Job Summary
The Engineer III and Senior Engineer positions are at the advanced levels of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III and Senior Engineer positions solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. Engineer III and Senior Engineers are expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. Engineer III and Senior Engineers effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied.
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
This position is responsible for analyzing, developing, designing, and supporting implementation of the Departmentβs Engineering design of transmission lines. Lines are of the voltages of 115kV and above. Design projects range from routine modifications of existing lines and structures to the complete design of new transmission facilities.
Manages multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely release of engineering designs.
Utilizes a variety of tools and techniques in order to complete an engineering design, including current design specifications, pertinent code manuals, computer aided design/drafting software, and other reference sources.
Assists in creating early project estimates and scope documents of requested work to ensure that engineering is directed properly from the start of the project.
Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity.
Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team.
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
Conducts engineering and related studies; completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Basic/Required Qualifications (Engineer III)
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
Minimum of 4 years engineering experience
Basic/Required Qualifications (Senior Engineer)
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct transmission line design experience, transmission line structural analysis and transmission line foundation analysis with PLS CADD, FAD tools or other tools used specifically for line design.
Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles
Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing and presenting recommendations
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
Good written and oral communication skills
Previous power system engineering experience
Previous power system modeling, flow analysis experience
Previous experience with Electric Transmission systems
