The Value Stream Manager is responsible for overall operation of a value stream. Implements Lean systems and
strategies to ensure a safe work environment, maximize profitable growth, drive quality improvements, provide
premier customer service, develop a technically qualified work force, reduce operating costs, inventories and lead times through continuous improvements. Oversee day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly expectations.
This position is also responsible for increasing the ratio of value added versus non-value added activities.

Nature and Scope:
This position will oversee and manage day to day operation of value stream with overall responsibilities for production and production-related activities so that approved products are manufactured in support of Solar’s business plan and within quality standards and cost objectives.
This position provides leadership and functional guidance for the production schedule, WIP inventory, Personnel Safety, Employee Development, Process Improvements, Cost Management, and Inter/Intra organization effectiveness. The incumbent interfaces with all levels of management, as well as other functional disciplines.
The incumbent must possess a strong knowledge of Manufacturing processes as well as Lean Manufacturing techniques. Technical knowledge of the product, lean supply chain management, Engineering processes, and 6 Sigma are imperative to success. Resource management, the ability to lead successful teams, continuous process improvement, and a working knowledge of Solar’s policies, procedures, and bargaining unit contracts are essential requirements for this position. This position also requires a candidate to be versed in production planning processes, capacity planning, and Value Stream Mapping. Material planning and Production Control experience is beneficial.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong problem-solving skills as well as organizational and planning skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with a diverse workforce are required.


Principal Accountabilities:
The incumbent leads and is held accountable for the following key functions:
Safety:
o Foster a safe environment through education, awareness, and ownership.
o Meet corporate safety goals for facility.
o Complete accident investigations and appropriate disposition.


Schedule Execution:
o Meet or exceed 95% on time delivery to customer need.
o Develop plan to achieve production capacity for annual sales forecast and long term forecast.
o Lead day-to-day activities within the value stream to ensure that current commitments are achieved.


Employee development:
o Manage a staff of various classifications
o Develop training requirements for each job classification in reporting structure.
o Conduct performance appraisals, merit and promotional planning.
o Offer creation of Individual development plans for direct reports.
o Develop team member roles, values and goals.
Process improvements:
o Develop current and future state value stream maps for value stream.
o Meet manufacturing cycle time (MCT) goals.
o Create and maintain and multi-generational (MGPP) project plan to achieve the future state(s) map.
o Continuously improve ratio of value to non-value added activities.
o Sponsor and lead various continuous improvement projects using 6 Sigma and Lean techniques.
o Develop tooling and improve facilities to reduce variation, improve quality and reduce cycle time and increase capacity.


Cost Managements / Reduction:
o Responsible for overtime management, headcount, operational budget, employee expense, OCE and capital projects.
o WIP inventory.
Inter / Intra organization effectiveness:
o Active Participation in the Planning and Operations teams.
o Maintain Value Stream metrics for Cycle time, Costs, and Quality.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Engineering, Business, or related field
At least 5+ additional years of leadership experience in Production, Materials, or Supply Chain
Proven track record of effective leadership, team building, and continuous improvement.
Familiarity with materials management disciplines including production and inventory control.
Ability to manage changing/conflicting priorities and resolve them appropriately.
