To help achieve our business plans, Bruce Power currently has an opportunity for a Section Manager, Engineering in the Fuel Handling & Tooling Systems and Component Design Department, for the Electrical and I&C Component Design section.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

Reporting to the Department Manager, Fuel Handling-Tooling Systems and Component Design. The successful candidate will lead and manage the Electrical and I&C Component Design section.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct output to the Department Manager, Fuel Handling-Tooling Systems and Component Design, for the production of quality cost effective design technical products, created in compliance with approved procedures, standards, legal and regulatory requirements, which satisfy the customer’s needs, and meet schedule demands.

  • Stakeholder management for clear understanding and acceptance of deliverables, and process expectations certainty, related to the engineering readiness of new parts.

  • Task Validation, Prioritization, Planning, Organizing, Resource Estimation, Cost Control, Coaching and Mentoring.

  • Owner of section’s Performance Metrics, Training and Development Programs.

  • Establishing and Reinforcing Performance Expectations and Completing Performance Reviews.

  • Oversight and Owners Reviews of Vendor Provided Services and Products.

  • Champion Implementation of Employee Engagement Improvement Initiatives, LEAN and Industry Best Practices.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Requires knowledge of Electrical and I&C design engineering, nuclear engineering, and economics to technically understand the operation of a nuclear power plant.

  • Requires knowledge and experience in the design, operation, and maintenance of preferably nuclear Plants or facilities.

  • Requires knowledge of English in order to prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations both verbally and in writing.

  • Requires experience to solve problems, to provide advice and guidance, to initiate developmental studies, and to make recommendations during the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility; to evaluate systems, components or materials, and to perform economic studies and evaluations associated with the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility.

  • Effective Interpersonal Management Skills is a necessity. Fuel Handling-Tooling Systems and Component Design is a hub organization with multiple people interfaces including: Engineering, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Projects, Work Management, Document Management, Corrective Action Program, Training, Equipment Vendors, Engineering Service Providers, Industry Peers, Industry Organizations, and the Regulator.

  • Technical background and management experience in several of the following areas is considered an asset:

    • Configuration Management

    • Engineering Change Control

    • Procurement Engineering

    • Project Management

    • Supply Chain Process

    • Maintenance Programs

    • LEAN Principles

    • Leadership Programs

  • An additional asset for this position would be in the area of Nuclear Emergency Response Organization as this position would be expected to become part of the Bruce Power Nuclear Emergency response organization.

Education and Experience:

  • A 4-year University degree in Engineering or equivalent, recognized in Canada.

  • Ontario Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.).

  • Eight plus (8+) years of relevant Engineering and Management experience.
