Under general supervision, uses basic principles, theories and concepts and an understanding of established analytical/scientific methods for design, research, test, and installation of Solar turbomachinery products. The intern will install compressor rigs and instrumentation as well as conduct the data reduction and data evaluation.

Problem Assignments:

Develops solutions to problems of limited scope. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.

Schedule:

This is a part time job during the school year and full-time during breaks. The hours are flexible for duration and days of the week during the school year.

This should be considered a 1000 hour intern position with the hours varying each week.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Classified by your school as either a Sophomore, Junior, Senior planning to attend graduate school, or currently attending graduate school.
  • Overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or higher

  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork capabilities.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and technical judgment.
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
  • Exhibit exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous related internship or co-op experience.

Key aspects of the intern's role shall include:

  • Conduct testing & test support at the Aerodynamic Test Facility.
  • Understanding the test setup, test hardware and interfaces between components.
  • Assembly & dis-assembly of aerodynamic components for the test rig.
  • Ensuring test instrumentation (such as pressure and temperature probes) are calibrated and perform calibrations as necessary.
  • Ensuring test instrumentation are connected to the appropriate data acquisition systems and are reading correctly.
  • Perform pre-test safety checks and lube oil runs prior to start.
  • Learn to operate the test rig to perform aerodynamic development testing.
  • Assist in reviewing drawings as necessary.
  • Post process data using Excel macros, Matlab or other software as necessary.
  • Use of CFD tools (eg., Ansys, CFX, TurboGrid) as necessary.

Summary Pay Range:

$49,209.00 - $73,813.00
