Job Description Responsibilities: Technical Leadership: Mechanical Engineering SME for team assisting in development, design and implementation of distributed generation projects. Engage in process improvement and standardization efforts Present technical findings and reports to diverse audiences. System Design and Optimization: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and design distributed generation systems (solar, battery storage, CHP, natural gas generation, fuel cell, microgrids). Optimize system layouts, considering efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies. Project Oversight: Evaluate potential project sites, conduct feasibility studies, assess technical requirements, and oversee through commissioning. Prepare engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Collaborate with utility companies, local authorities, and community stakeholders. Energy Modeling and Analysis: Use or create simulation tools to model system performance, energy yield, and grid integration. Analyze data to enhance system efficiency and predict performance under varying conditions. Permitting and Compliance: Navigate regulatory processes for project approvals and permits. Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and grid interconnection standards. Construction Oversight: Collaborate with project managers and contractors during construction, on innovative ways to satisfy change order requests, ensuring adherence to design specifications. Monitor project progress, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions. Commissioning and Testing: Oversee system commissioning, functional testing, and performance validation. Document results and provide technical support. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Renewable Energy Engineering. Experience in distributed generation or related fields preferred. First principles approach to problem solving Adaptability and desire to learn Proficiency in modeling and CAD software Strong commercial, analytical, and technical skills MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Has typically acquired 8 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; or 6 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*.  Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is required for this position unless approval to waive this requirement is given by the organization's EVP.*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
