Job Summary:

This position will support Natural Gas Business Unit (NGBU) Engineering products such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Vault, Autodesk Web Client, the GIM Tool, and the Technical Toolbox platform. The suite of products is utilized by Distribution Engineering and Technical Services. The NGBU plans to utilize a Senior Product Owner to align the product backlogs and roadmaps with the broader technology strategy.

The Senior Product Owner is responsible for defining, delivering, and managing the lifecycle of products in a product portfolio. This role utilizes the principles of the Transformation Operating Model (ToM) which consists of human-centered design, agile engineering, metered-funding requests, and change management.

The Senior Product Owner will work with the business to evaluate solutions to problems. Solutions need to be evaluated for desirability, viability, and feasibility. Once a solution has been determined, the role of the Senior Product Owner will be to request funding, create a product roadmap, manage the iterative development in an agile environment, and measure the results of the solution. This role will facilitate product demos and regularly communicate with users and business leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Defines and manages product roadmap
  • Build, groom and prioritize the product backlog, continuously managing expectations with relevant stakeholders – including the senior leadership team
  • Manage the sprint planning process and participate in all relevant ceremonies (reviews of prior sprints, grooming, retrospectives, etc.)
  • Develop a deep contextual understanding of our customer, worker, and user needs
  • Gather market feedback through user interactions, focus groups, and by performing industry research to support future development
  • Write detailed functional specifications, user stories and product documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of developers, designers, and analysts to implement and deliver new products and features
  • Collaborate with the organization on vision, strategy, decisioning, tactical execution, and measurement systems
  • Communicate roadmap stages and timelines internally with key stakeholders

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and four (4) or more years of related work experience; OR High School Diploma/GED and nine (9) or more years of related work experience in lieu of a degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Product Owner
  • Seven (7) or more years of working in the utility industry
  • Experience as a Senior Product Analyst
  • Agile Product Owner certification
  • “Black Belt” Six Sigma certification
  • Experience with Jira

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility.
  • Office environment mostly, often with research, analysis or engagement conducted in plants or field

Specific Requirements

  • Entrepreneurial with a strong inclination towards action, preferably with experience shipping software
  • Ability to communicate complex and innovative concepts to a product development team
  • Clear passion for topics of technology products and an ability to identify possibilities to innovate
  • Ability to be self-directed and to proactively anticipate problems and seek opportunities
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to build relationships and effectively influence across all management and organizational levels.
  • Strong understanding of the SDLC process and the ability to work in an agile environment with bi-weekly releases
  • Experience with relevant new product or technology development experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience operating in an environment driven by KPIs where you have the accountability to determine the best course of action to meet your goals
