Job Summary

Normally maintains street lighting equipment. The following list sets forth the principal duties required with the degree of supervision normally given. This list is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions. The employee may also perform the duties and responsibilities of a field meter servicer and other related and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Under general supervision, replace street light lamps and glassware; re-wire and repair street light heads when necessary; operate mobile radio equipment; operate automotive equipment including trucks with derricks, augers, aerial devices and winches; fuel; perform daily inspections; change chains and tires on job; place danger signs, flares, etc. and flag traffic; remove and install single-phase meters; load, haul and unload material; perform minor tree trimming around secondary/service conductors; and utilize computer systems required to obtain material from Stores Department. Guide out-of-town Company crews or contract crews as directed; take and record secondary or service voltage readings.
  • Under general supervision sharpen, repair, paint and maintain tools and equipment; patrol and inspect lines and small stations; perform miscellaneous work for Stores Department and other sections as directed; paint poles and associated equipment on de-energized circuits.
  • Assist in clearing of right-of-way and trimming of circuits/primary lines near energized circuits; test street light circuits; paint poles and associated equipment on energized circuits; and assist in working with secondary services issues.
  • Guide and direct the work of employees assigned to assist.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules, regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices
  • Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Maintain records and submit reports as required.
  • Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education requirements:

High School graduate or General Equivalency Degree (GED)

Work Experience requirement:

Two years utility work experience.

Required License(s)/Certification(s):

Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver License with an acceptable driving record.

The required Pre-Employment tests are listed below:

EEICAST - Construction & Skilled Trades Physical demand level is Heavy

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to read and write and have knowledge of arithmetic sufficient to understand written instructions and keep records pertaining to the work.
  • Knowledge of print reading sufficient to interpret and apply information from simple blueprints, one-line diagrams, instruction manuals, construction drawings, etc.
  • Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) selection test is required for this position.
  • Must be able to obtain good working knowledge of street lighting circuits in the area to which assigned.
  • Must have the ability to deal with customers and other employees in a courteous and proper manner.
  • Must be able to successfully manage work requirements.
  • Employee must have the physical ability to work out of a bucket on energized lines and tolerate awkward and stretched work positions.
  • Must be able to use fingers for strong pinching and fine manipulation of small objects and wires.
  • Must have the ability to use a computer and electronic devices and write legibly and record accurately.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.
  • Must demonstrate familiarity with Company safety rules and practices.

$19.59-22.64 USD
